On the 1st February in 1982 Helga Grützner founded the international organization of multiple birth families, called ABC-Club. It was named after the Grützners´ triplet sons Arnt, Bernt and Christian.
On the first big meeting of multiples in Bensheim-Auerbach all participants decided to enter the ABC-Club into the official register of organizations.
- Today about 1500 families with triplets,quadruplets, quintuplets and sextuplets are members of the ABC-Club.
- In 1983 the second television channel in cooperation with Marianne Strauß and Thomas Gottschalk discovers the subject of triplets and invites 6 families to Munich in order to make TV-shootings.
- Since 1983 the organization has been recognised as of public utility and particularly worthy of donations.
- In 1986 the acting minister of families is requested to abolish the financial discrimination of multiple birth families in reference to the law of „Erziehungsgeld“ (a certain amount of money paid by the government to most families after the birth of a child) .
- In 1988 the first recreation time for multiple birth families takes place on Borkum
- In 1989 the law is being changed in favour of multiple birth families, as it was demanded by the ABC-Club: the money („Erziehungsgeld“) is now being paid per child and not per birth.
- In 1993 the ABC-Club is being honored by the award of the Karl Kübel foundation.
- In April 1996 Mrs. Helga Grützner becomes honorary president.
On Easter 1998 the ABC-Club organizes an educational holiday for families with multiples with special needs, that is only supported by donations and public allowances.
- In January 2000 the ABC-Club and the „Mutter-Kind-Hilfswerk“ organize together the first cure exclusively for multiple birth families
